TIPS & TRICKS - Don’t ever make bland rice or grains again!!

My grain game has become way better over the years. Rice, quinoa, barley, farro - I use this method to infuse maximum flavor. No more boring bland rice in this house.

1. Swap out water for broth
2. Use aromatics - fresh herbs, garlic, hunks of ginger, tomato paste, lemons zest, greens of scallions etc. and don’t forget the salt and pepper!!
3. Add a little fat! It won’t hurt you I promise. But it WILL make your rice taste better. A little butter makes rice delish! Vegan? Try some coconut milk, especially the fat from the top of the can!
4. Not for flavor but don’t forget to read the liquid to grain ratio. Not all rice uses 2:1 and you can wind up with crunchy or soggy rice.

1.5 lb stew meat
1/4 c flour
3 medium carrots
7–8 ribs celery
1 yellow onion
12 cloves garlic
1/2 of 750 ml bottle red wine
Fresh thyme/rosemary
6 c beef broth
16 oz crushed tomatoes
2 Parmesan rinds
1 lb golden potatoes
1 c cut green beans
1 c barley

Why do I post my workout videos?

I don’t post them for me. I post them for YOU. Because I know seeing other people practice healthy habits can be contagious. It can spark a chain reaction. Seeing people do things remind you “oh hey - I need to sneak my workout in” or “I need to START”.

Before I was posting these workouts, before I was DOING these workouts, I was the girl on the couch scrolling. I was tired as hell and 16 months postpartum. I was watching people like me posting their workout stories. And one day after watching them I decided enough was enough, that I needed to start again and make myself a priority.

My daughter sees me moving my body all the time. We move our bodies TOGETHER. She is growing up with movement as a part of her life. With movement as medicine. She isn’t growing up with talks about diets and weight loss. She is growing up knowing that we aren’t meant to sit still. That weights build healthy muscles. She knows that fruit and veggies are good for our brains.

She will grow up understanding it’s important to take care of yourself. So that she can be the best version of herself for those around her.

THAT’S why I post these videos. So you can believe all these things too!

POV From a Recovering “Productive Person”

I used to hold myself accountable to always being productive. You can sleep when you’re dead. Why rest when there are a million things to get done??

My corporate job was intense. I gave it my all and then some. I gave them my after hours - which were meant for family. I gave them weekends - which were meant for me, family time, rest, whatever else. And it’s not because they demanded it. It was the boundary I created. I was a go-to. Someone you could count on no matter what. “Text me if you need anything” we’re my parting words before leaving for vacation usually.

And looking back I don’t know what it got me. It earned me a good reputation at the company. I became a LOT of people’s go-tos. But at the sacrifice of what? I wasn’t present at home after work for the three hours I actually had with my daughter. I didn’t go visit her at daycare which was IN MY OFFICE during work ever.

I mustered up 30 mins max of self care a day. But I chose ONE thing. There was NO WAY I could spend more than 30 mins on myself (gasp). And no one did that to me. That is how I felt. That was the pressure I created for myself.

This month is month 5 of leaving my corporate job. And it’s month ONE of figuring out that holy shit I CAN spend an hour+ of time on myself and not feel guilty. I Can workout, walk outside, meditate AND play with my daughter!! I don’t have to choose. And I don’t have to feel bad about “not being productive”. Because taking care of yourself IS productive. Being with your family IS productive. It’s just not necessarily crossing off a to-do list. But it’s so much more valuable than a task anyway!!

I just wish it didn’t take me so long to figure it out!!

Skincare is NOT just what you put ON your body.

People compliment my skin a lot and ask what products I use. I mean I love a good skin product as much as the next person. But I know the appearance of my skin has way more to do with my daily habits versus my skin care. Those include:

💧💦WATER - water not only hydrated your body inside but hydrated your skin. It’s crucial for your skin’s elasticity.

🍓🍅🥬🥦HEALTHY EATING - Research suggests that these and other nutrients and compounds in certain foods can benefit the skin. The diet may play a direct role in nourishing the skin and keeping it healthful. (Source: Medicalnewstoday.com)

😴🥱SLEEP - when you sleep you skin repairs and heals itself from damage. The less you sleep the less repair being done.

And it’s not in this video but WASH YOUR MAKEUP OFF before bed. You don’t want all that gunk sitting on your face clogging your pores.

Additionally for me I haven’t been on birth control for almost 15 years. I noticed a huge improvement in my skin personally when I didn’t have all those hormones running thru me.

Remember - your skin is directly correlated to the “you are what you eat” saying. Take care of your body - it’s the only one you have!
